This book is a compilation of proceedings from a Conference on Indigenous Peoples in South and Southeast Asia. Contents feature chapters on: The Concept of Indigenous Peoples in Asia; Juridical Rights and the Relation with the State and the Non-Indigenous Populations; Indigenous Movements and Forms of Organisation; Perspectives on the Future and conclusions from the conference.
The conference was jointly organised by the International Work Group for Indigenous Affairs (IWGIA), the Asia Indigenous Peoples Pact (AIPP) and the Inter Mountain Peoples Education and Culture in Thailand Association (IMPECT). The main aim of the conference was to provide a forum for indigenous peoples form different parts of Asia to come together, to share experiences and strategies.
