The Commonwealth Youth Programme works to promote youth participation in planning and decision-making that affects their lives and their countries' development. This publication provides a snapshot of active citizenship by young people around the world, as well as contributions from Heads of State and government officials, representatives from development, civic and youth agencies, the arts, business and trade unions, education and community sectors in Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, the South Pacific and the global 'North'. Aspects of youth participation discussed include: citizenship education and youth empowerment, globalisation and sustainable development, conflict resolution, AIDS education initiatives, employment, gender and global citizenship.
