The book offers a critical analysis of the political dynamics that shape Singapore's public policies. It suggests that policy-making in Singapore involves a complex process of interaction among political institutions, and that the distribution of power among these institutions is hierarchical and precarious. Thus, the book argues, the contestation of political interests is largely responsible for the types of policies and their impact. This volume is revised and expanded from the earlier edition, the Politics of Policy-making in Singapore (2000). the first edition (of this volume) included important sections on previous Prime Ministers Lee Kuan Yew and Goh Chok Tong and their influence on policy-making in Singapore, on the politics of the budgetary process in Singapore, and on the relationship between the judiciary and policy-making in Singapore. This second edition includes a section on current Prime Minister, Lee Hsien Loong.
