An expert committee was set up to consider amendments in the Information Technology Act. It made its recommendations and proposed amendments. They were introduced in modified form as the Information Technology (Amendment) Bill, 2006. The 2006 bill was further modified and passed by the Parliament on 23-12-2008. It was notified after the assent of the President on 5-2-2009 as the Information Technology (Amendment) Act, 2008 (Central Act Number 10 of 2009). At the time of this revision, the 2008 amendments were not enforced but have been taken into account while revising the book. There is debate regarding the law for patentibility of computer software. This edition takes into account the latest decisions in 'In re Bilski case', 'In re Astron Clinica Ltd'. It also presents the decisions 'Jacobsen v. Matthew Katzer' (which holds the violation of conditions of 'open source software' to be infringement of copyright) and 'In re French Three Strike Law' (which holds Internet to be part of freedom of expression). Domain name disputes are increasing day by day. The new cases in this area and other areas (Including Bazee.com decision) have also been discussed. Part 2 of the Act contains Rules, Regulations and guidelines. They have also been updated.
