Earth, Spirit and Gender : Visual Language for the New Reality

Earth, Spirit and Gender presents BelanÂ's art, created as a result of two decades of her investigations into the art history and mythologies of prehistoric, ancient and non-western cultures. Her art illustrates the concepts, myths and archetypes from these cultures, and underscores her experiences as a post-modern artist. This multi-layered approach uncovers and re-interprets the matriarchal myths, symbols and archetypes of worldwide cultures. The artist/writer sees the importance of understanding these cultures in order to successfully navigate through the twenty-first century, a time of ecological concern, a desire for peace, and social parity. Belán sees artists as shamans of a post-modern society who may and should influence our global progress into the direction of eco-conscious, peaceful and multi-cultural world view.
