Genetics; Ethics, Law and Policy

The casebook is divided into 4 sections. The first provides an introduction to the context in which decisions about genetics have been made. The second section covers genetic research, including issues related to federal and international regulations, intellectual property rights, and research initiatives such as the Human Genome Diversity Project and the Environmental Genome Project. The third section deals with medical applications of genetics, including prenatal testing and gene therapy. The fourth section addresses the non-medical application of genetics, including paternity testing, and the use of genetic technologies by social institutions, including law enforcement officials, courts, insurers, employers and schools.
