There has been a long history of concern over the effects of the use of organophosphates on human health, culminating in the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAFF) announcement of the withdrawal of organophosphate (OP) sheep dip containers from the market in December 1999. This inquiry examines the consultation over the withdrawal; its timing; the information made available following the withdrawal; the effects on farmers, on the environment and human health; and the implication for the use of OPs in the future.
