Humanistic Management by Teamwork : An Organizational and Administrative Alternative for Academic Libraries

This text demonstrates how teams work. By offering an organisational alternative to the traditional hierarchy in libraries, it helps libraries use their most valuable assets: faculty and staff. The need for reshaping the organisation, implementation of the team-based organisational design, and issues of staffing, communication and performance appraisal are all covered in the book. An extensive case study illustrates how the principles of humanistic management were put into practice at the University of New Mexico General Library. Bibliographies at the end of each chapter provide further resources for study. The methods presented provide an added dimension of respect and dignity for everyone in the workplace, regardless of position; and it should allow libraries to successfully meet the challenges of the future.
