Modern societies are burdened with ethnical fragmentation, social deprivation, violence and terrorism. Problems of this kind generate feelings of insecurity, among them crime-related fear. This CD-ROM publishes the interim report Insec in Amsterdam. Urban insecurity is studied on three levels of urban structure: on city level, district level and neighbourhood level. Three methodological approaches pertain to these levels: 1) The establishment of a city problem profile by using official data and by exploiting the experiences of local experts by way of in-depth interviews (macro-level) 2. A Standardized survey of a repsentative random sample of residents in two districts of the respective cities by which the - endangered - quality of life of the respondents is investigated (meso level). 3. Qualitative interviews with selected groups of citizens regarding the respondents' view of the state and the changes in their community, and how they are affected by the ongoing transformation processes (micro level). 4. In addition, a criminal policy overview - focused on Community (fear of) Crime Prevention was conducted. Furthermore a Local Report offers a first integrated summary based on the present state of research that is still going on. All parts were written in accordance with a common predetermined list of contents. The cross-national comparison is not yet in the Netherlands.
