Islam + Architecture

The second half of the twentieth century signaled dramatic changes in Islamic architecture. With the influx of oil money into the Middle East and, with it, commercial designs and constructions imported wholesale from the West, the architecture of Islam departed from its traditionally ecologically sensitive and sustainable designs.
