Law and the Chinese in Southeast Asia

These seven papters by lawyers and academics were selected from the 1998 Canberra conference on laws relating to Chinese who live outside China. The exploration of this complex subject seeks to answer questions such as: What are the laws of China outside China; what are the laws of the Chinese in Southeast Asia; what are/were the laws of for such Chinese and is there a "Confucian Chinese". The answers to these questions are sometimes clear but often obscure or unknown. New issues are raised and areas for research are highlighted.
