This excellent work on the law of Torts has been prepared as per the new syllabus prescribed by the Bar Council of India, and as taught in major Universities throughout India. The work covers the Law of Torts along with the Law of Statutory Compensation and the Law of Consumer Protection. The general principles of the law of Tort as well as the law relating to specific torts has been stated most succinctly and vividly and explained along with important and up to date case-law. Law of Torts is a live and expanding branch of law. The topic of 'negligence' therein affects a very wide range of situations. Sale and supply of defective goods and services to a consumer is one of such situations. The Consumer Protection Act supplies a cheap and speedy alternative system of consumer justice by summary trial. One may say that it is an effort to replace the doctrine and philosophy of 'Caveat emptor' by the maxim 'Caveat venditor'. The Act is based mainly on the topic of 'product liability', besides others in tort law. One who is granted damages against injury suffered, is compensated by law for his loss or injury, in terms of money because every injury must have a remedy. The topic of compensation under various statutes has been covered by this volume in adequate detail. Discussion about judicial activism and human rights also appears at appropriate places. A detailed subject-index further enhances the utility of this splendid work.
