Leonardo da Vinci as a physiognomist : theory and drawing practice

Fundamental research on the so-called 'grotesque heads' drawings in Da Vinci's work. The author presents for the first time a classification of the relevant drawings into categories of purpose. In this revised edition most of the black and white illustrations have been replaced by full colour.
