Something peculiar is going on at the Group Medical Practice in Taviscombe: long delays and an increasingly sloppy standard of care have everyone complaining and old Dr. MacDonald seems very uneasy. Sheila Malory can't help but feel that it may have something to do with the unexpected arrival of Dr. Morrison, the arrogant and cold-mannered gene specialist from London, whose alleged misdiagnoses of a local patient who later died, have made him the focus of the rumour mill in Taviscombe. When Dr. Morrison is suddenly found dead in his office, apparently murdered, evidence points towards Rhys Hampden, the drug addicted son of a couple from the village, and the last person to have seen Dr. Morrison alive. However, Sheila Malory is not convinced that Dr. Morrison's death was simply the result of a random act of violence, and sets out to investigate.
