Profile Deutsch

Standards for the teaching of German, whether in the form of the ACTFL Proficiencies or the National Standards, have existed in the U. S. for years. With the advent of the EU and increased mobility among nations, the creation of similar standards for all European languages became a priority. The Profile (Profiles), officially sanctioned by the Council of Europe, the Austrian Ministry for Education, and the Goethe Institut Inter Nationes, provide the description of the first 4 of six measurable levels of language proficiency. It's a bible for curriculum planners, test makers, teachers, and advanced language students who want to insure that they're on the right track.
