Records from the Office of Günter Mittag is published as Part 4 in the series. Mittag's office was the power centre of the GDR's economic policy. Günter Mittag (1926-1994) reported directly to the respective 1st Secretaries of the SED's ZK (Central Committee), Walter Ulbricht, and later Erich Honecker. However, on account of his prominent position within the SED nomenclature, he had personal decision-making power. This part-edition contains the files from the fifferent areas of Günter Mittag's work from the years 1962-1989. It encompasses most aspects of society, especially the GDR's international relations and the relations between the two German states, the GDR and the Federal Republic of Germany. The files have been examined and arranged archivally, and encompass approximately 447,700 pages.
