This is the 33rd edition of the annual publication which draws together statistics from a wide range of government departments and other organisations to highlight key trends in British society. Chapters focus on 13 social policy areas relating to: population; households and families; education and training; the labour market; income and wealth; expenditure; health; social protection; crime and justice; housing; environment; transport; and lifestyles and social participation. Each chapter contains tables, charts and explanatory text, and data sources are given. Half of the tables and figures in this edition are new, compared to the previous edition. This edition also features an article on social capital and describes how people's interaction with family, friends and others can benefit themselves and the community.
