This book relates the behavioral phenomena of stress to the biological foundations of stress. The books starts by looking at definitions of stress in terms of external stressors, hormonal states and pathological consequences, as well as other factors. It highlights the difficulties and ambiguities in the use of the term stress but points towards a definition based on stretching adaptive coping systems beyond their normal range.
