A study of chamber organs in Britain between 1600 and 1830. It takes account of foreign-made imports and embraces the United Kingdom as a whole. The author seeks to offer an assessment of the chamber organ both as a musical instrument and as a decorative icon of considerable social and artistic significance at a particular period in history. He also provides a record of surviving examples.
