The Invisible Princess
Leverbaar
She was born in a cottonfield, but before her parents, Mama and Papa Love, could even name her, their child was whisked away from them by the powers of Nature so that she would not have to endure the harshness of a life born into slavery. By those same powers of nature she is made invisible, so she cannot be seen by anyone who might harm her, but neither can she be seen by her own parents. Years later, Patience, the blind daughter of the evil plantation owner for whom Mama and Papa Love work, has a vision of a beautiful princess playing in the cotton field. When she asks her father about the child, Captain Pepper denies any knowledge of her, but recalls the rumor of the child's birth. He vows to find out if, indeed, a slave girl had been born on his plantation and kept from him, and to punish any slave who might be hiding her. When Patience overhears her father's vow to find the Invisible Princess, she returns to the cotton fields to warn the little girl she had seen. Finally the Invisible Princess must make herself known to her parents, to save them from Captain Pepper's wrath. She tells them the story of her disappearance and the beautiful, free life she has been living. She calls upon the Powers of Nature to help the slaves against Captain Pepper, and soon all the other slaves, including Mama and Papa Love, are also made invisible, and live free for the first time in the Invisible Village of Peace and Love.
