Arthur O'Connor was one of the leaders of the United Irishmen. He brought to the revolutionary movement of the 1790s a mind honed on the ideas of Adam Smith and applied it to the political economy of 18th-century Ireland. This text, first published in 1798 sets forth O'Connor's ideas.
