This book reviews Irish exile through the exiled MacDonnells of Antrim and their associates. The MacDonnell family, exiled from Ireland, fought as mercenaries abroad from 1615 to 1820. Section I covers the Spanish Netherlands, Section II follows the family to France and Section III covers 1710ñ1820 when Randall MacDonnell campaigned in Italy and Morocco with his Irishmen. Randallís son, with his friend Charles Wogan, tried to take their Irish Brigade to Scotland in 1745. Enrique Reynaldo, of the third generation, was an admiral who fought at Trafalgar and died a pauper. An epilogue follows the MacDonnells in Austria, from the assassin of Wallenstein to one who fought for the Papacy against Garibaldi.
