Eyvind and Somerled seem set to follow very different paths. A voyage of discovery brings the two friends together again accompanying a group of settlers to some islands across the western sea. One day, on a trip to a place of the Folk, a murder occurs and peace is shattered. Eyvind begins to feel the restraining ties of his boyhood oath.
