The Many Faces of Autism

Autism was first described in 1943 as impairment of language development and communication skills. Since then, its name has changed to Autistic Spectrum Disorder and it includes a myriad of symptoms including impaired communication, social interactions, and repetitive behaviors which can range from mild to severe. This program describes the known pathophysiology as well as manifestations of the most common forms of the disorder, which affects 1 to 1.5 million Americans.
