Design Concepts and Strategies
for Precision Engineering
Samenvatting
Design Concepts and Strategies for Precision Engineering is a textbook for students as well as for engineers new to this challenging field. The book consists of four parts.
Part I addresses the challenges of a precision engineer in designing tight-tolerance, high speed systems efficiently and affordably. It gives insight into how physical effects make it hard to achieve these goals.
Part II consists of theoretical models to analyse systems and to predict their behaviour.
Part III presents design strategies and principles that help to avoid, compensate for, or mitigate consequences of the physical effects that were introduced in part I.
Part IV shows design concepts that are the result of applying the knowledge from the previous parts. Some of these concepts are accompanied by examples provided by leading companies from the industry.
The contents of part III and IV are largely based on the work started by Wim van der Hoek, who is considered to be the founder of the field of precision engineering in the region of Eindhoven.
