This idea posits that unresolved transgressions and errors of preceding family members can persist to negatively affect descendants, thereby engendering challenges in their lives. This belief has transitioned from the periphery of religious thought to a more mainstream position, notably within charismatic and Pentecostal ministries that emphasize spiritual deliverance. It furnishes a straightforward, albeit disconcerting, explanation for significant life adversities, including chronic illness, economic hardship, relational discord, and a sense of spiritual oppression. By identifying a concealed adversary and proposing a decisive resolution, it has, for many, become an essential element of spiritual warfare.
However, it may be argued that this pervasive belief is predicated on a notion superseded by the New Covenant.
