Whisperings under the Copper Beech Tree
21 very short fairytales for grown-ups
Samenvatting
Mars B. van ’t Veer (1945) wrote these very short fairy tales for his children, but he also had in mind the people he encountered in his daily life as a medical specialist.
At bedtime, he would tell his children about the adventures of Wopke the gnome, and the animals who also lived in the Woods. Miraculous things apparently happened. But, do miraculous things really happen?
People at times have to seek a cure from their doctors. But a cure is not always possible. Nor is recovery. But in those moments, it is often harsh reality that shapes the conversation. However, is harsh reality the only truth?
Grown-ups sometimes ask themselves these questions — especially in difficult times. And sometimes they ask other grown-ups. But they don’t ask children, certainly not animals or gnomes. That is a pity, because children, animals, and gnomes have thoughts of their own on such matters. Perhaps they too can help guide grown-ups towards an answer.
Enjoy the read. Really, these fairy tales are very short.
